Dr. Denise Funk, DVM
Dr. Denise Funk has been a Veterinarian since 1997. She worked for Dr. Sundstrom through high school and college. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Berry College and her master’s degree in anatomy and radiology from UGA. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UGA.
Dr. Funk is a past president of GVMA, chairman of GVMA Foundation, and a member of Rotary Club of Gainesville. Her family includes her husband Gary, her son Joseph, and her daughter Rachel. She enjoys horseback riding, lake activities, and family time.
Her four-legged family includes Tutti, a pug; Frank, a cat; Magnolia, a lab; and Pinkie, a Quarter Horse.
Dr. Chris Potter, DVM
Dr. Chris Potter practices veterinary medicine and has been with AMC since 2003. He previously worked at Los Banos Veterinary Clinic, a mixed animal practice in California. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Lake Forest College and is a graduate of Leadership Hall County. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UGA and is a member of Tri Beta – National Biology Honors Society and Sigma Xi – National Veterinary Honors Society.
He grew up on a working dairy farm and enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, and triathlons. His family includes his wife Tiffany, his daughter Gracyn, and his son Fenton.
His four-legged family includes Bert, a lab mix; Lola, a Frenchie; and three cats: Hibiscus, Edward, and Badger.
Dr. Summer Andersen, DVM
Dr. Summer Andersen is a Gainesville native and attended both Gainesville College and the University of Georgia, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. She then continued her education at Tuskegee University to work on a master’s degree and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree there.
She returned to Gainesville in 2011 after graduation to practice locally for six years before moving to practice in other clinical settings including shelter medicine and relief work. She has a strong interest in internal medicine and surgery. She has completed courses in Acupuncture at the Chi Institute in Florida and offers this service to her patients. Dr. Andersen enjoys the different aspects of veterinary medicine and creating a close connection with both her patients and their owners.
In her free time, Dr. Andersen enjoys all things outdoors and was once an original member of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club. She lives in Gainesville with her spouse and their house full of rescue dogs.
Katie Mills assists in surgery and appointments and oversees inventory. She started at AMC in 2006, right out of high school.
When not at work, she enjoys attending her stepdaughter Jayden’s softball games and working on her house with her husband Jeff. She has two dogs named Paco and Willow.
Maegan is often in the exam rooms assisting the doctors. She takes great pride in caring for our patients here at AMC. Maegan graduated from Brenau University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and all her fur babies. Her hobbies include fishing, bonfires, and taking her dogs to the lake and on hikes. She has several dogs, two cats, a leopard gecko, and a ball python.
Stephanie oversees the upkeep of animals, making sure they are clean, healthy, and happy. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with pets, family, and friends. She also loves shopping. She has four dogs and three cats, including a pit bull-terrier mix, a labrador, a poodle/mix, a teacup chihuahua, two domestic longhairs, and a domestic short hair.
Brianna works in our kennel area, giving all our boarded pets care and love. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her friends and family. She is in student council at her high school and is involved in the theater. She has two sisters and one brother.
Vy is one of our kennel technicians that tend to our patients here at AMC. When not working, you will find Vy either at UNG, where she is currently taking classes, or hiking. She hopes to have a fur baby in her life very soon.
San is one of our friendly kennel technicians who will take care of your fur baby while he/she is here at Animal Medical Care. When not here working and loving on our patients, San enjoys photography and journaling. Her four-legged family consists of her feeding many stray cats around her home.
Jewel works in our kennel department. She enjoys taking care of our patients, making sure they are well fed and loved on while here. She enjoys showing them lots of attention. When not hard at work, she stays very busy going to UNG, knitting, and reading books. Her four-legged family consists of a cat named Frankie.
Megan is one of our very helpful kennel technicians who works very hard at taking care of all of our patients while they are here at the hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her two dogs, Huntleigh Grace and Gypsey Rose.
Terri joined AMC in January 2020. She has been grooming pets for over 15 years! When Terri is not here making our patients all clean and pretty, she loves spending time with her husband and daughter doing outside activities like hiking and kayaking. She has two dogs, Seeley the Dalmatian and Hope the Boston terrier. Terri really enjoys her job, and she is so sweet and kind to all of our patients.
Amber joined AMC in February 2020. She works in our grooming department, giving baths and assisting our groomer. She is married and has several pets of her own. When not here, working she enjoys reading, watching TV, and playing with her fur babies. She also donates some of her time helping out at the rescue shelters.
Cathy helps to manage the staff, assists with the receptionists, and helps take care of clients. She has 17 years of experience in management at a veterinary hospital in Asheville, NC. She likes to hike, cook, read, and work in her yard. Her family includes her husband Jack, five adult children, two grandchildren, and her dog Jake.
