Dr. Denise Funk, DVM

Veterinarian/Co-Owner

Dr. Denise Funk has been a Veterinarian since 1997. She worked for Dr. Sundstrom through high school and college. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Berry College and her master’s degree in anatomy and radiology from UGA. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UGA.

Dr. Funk is a past president of GVMA, chairman of GVMA Foundation, and a member of Rotary Club of Gainesville. Her family includes her husband Gary, her son Joseph, and her daughter Rachel. She enjoys horseback riding, lake activities, and family time.

Her four-legged family includes Tutti, a pug; Frank, a cat; Magnolia, a lab; and Pinkie, a Quarter Horse.

Dr. Chris Potter, DVM

Veterinarian/Co-Owner

Dr. Chris Potter practices veterinary medicine and has been with AMC since 2003. He previously worked at Los Banos Veterinary Clinic, a mixed animal practice in California. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Lake Forest College and is a graduate of Leadership Hall County. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UGA and is a member of Tri Beta – National Biology Honors Society and Sigma Xi – National Veterinary Honors Society.

He grew up on a working dairy farm and enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, and triathlons. His family includes his wife Tiffany, his daughter Gracyn, and his son Fenton.

His four-legged family includes Bert, a lab mix; Lola, a Frenchie; and three cats: Hibiscus, Edward, and Badger.

Dr. Summer Andersen, DVM

Dr. Summer Andersen, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Summer Andersen is a Gainesville native and attended both Gainesville College and the University of Georgia, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. She then continued her education at Tuskegee University to work on a master’s degree and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree there.

She returned to Gainesville in 2011 after graduation to practice locally for six years before moving to practice in other clinical settings including shelter medicine and relief work. She has a strong interest in internal medicine and surgery. She has completed courses in Acupuncture at the Chi Institute in Florida and offers this service to her patients. Dr. Andersen enjoys the different aspects of veterinary medicine and creating a close connection with both her patients and their owners.

In her free time, Dr. Andersen enjoys all things outdoors and was once an original member of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club. She lives in Gainesville with her spouse and their house full of rescue dogs.

Dr. Rachel Weaver, DVM

Dr. Rachel Weaver, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Rachel Weaver is a 2021 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. During her time in vet school, she was part of the Phi Zeta honor society and graduated first in her class. Dr. Weaver also did an externship at Animal Medical Care during her clinical year where she was able to learn from Dr. Funk and Dr. Potter. She is so excited to be back!

Prior to vet school, she attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia where she obtained a B.S. in biology. There she met her husband, Alan, who is from Gainesville. In their spare time, they enjoy going out with their friends and relaxing with their 3 dogs Ally, Huey, and Tillie. Fun fact- Dr. Weaver is obsessed with corgis!

Laurie has been grooming pets for over 10 years and is truly passionate about making them look fabulous! She treats every animal that she grooms like her own and goes out of her way to make them feel safe and loved. When she is not here making your pets beautiful, she is reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Vanessa always wanted to help animals as a child. In 2013 she went to the Academy for Grooming and shortly thereafter began working in the veterinary field. Not only did she do grooming but worked as a vet assistant as well. Her experience has given her a better understanding of not only what makes a pet beautiful, but also healthy. She takes immense pride in her job, and it shows. The one thing Vanessa loves most is her handsome orange tabby cat Dallas.

Office Manager

Cathy helps to manage the staff, assists with the receptionists, and helps take care of clients. She has 17 years of experience in management at a veterinary hospital in Asheville, NC. She likes to hike, cook, read, and work in her yard. Her family includes her husband Jack, five adult children, two grandchildren, and her dog Jake.
